What age can my child start drum lessons?
Most students start from around 5 years old, although every child is different.
At this age, lessons focus on building coordination, confidence and, most importantly, a love for music. The goal is to spark their interest and make learning fun from day one.
What equipment do I need?
Students will need access to either:
-
An acoustic drum kit
-
An electronic drum kit
If you're unsure which option is best, I'm happy to offer advice before you buy anything.
Where do lessons take place?
Lessons are available:
-
At local schools
-
In your home (provided suitable equipment is available)
-
At my teaching room in Woodley (limited availability)
What ability levels do you teach?
Lessons are suitable for all abilities, from complete beginners through to Grade 8 level students.
How long are lessons?
Lessons are 30, 45 or 60 minutes long, depending on the student's age, experience and goals.
Do students have opportunities to perform?
Yes.
Students can take part in Drum Fest, an annual showcase that gives them the opportunity to perform in front of family and friends in a supportive environment.
For many students, it's their first experience on stage and a fantastic way to build confidence.
Do I need to take music exams?
Not at all.
Some students enjoy working towards grades, while others simply want to learn songs, improve their playing and have fun. Lessons are tailored to each student's interests and goals.
Can adults learn too?
Absolutely.
While many students are children and teenagers, adults are welcome too. It's never too late to start learning drums or return to playing after a break.
